EADWEARD J MUYBRIDGE (9 April 1830 – 8 Mei 1904) adalah seorang fotografer Inggris keturunan Belanda yang menghabiskan sebagian besar hidupnya di Amerika Serikat. Dia dikenal karena karya rintisannya pada gerak hewan yang digunakan beberapa kamera untuk menangkap gerak, dan zoopraksiskop, sebuah perangkat untuk memproyeksikan gambar gerak melalui strip film fleksibel berlubang.

Awal kehidupan dan karir

Muybridge lahir di Kingston upon Thames, Inggris pada tanggal 9 April 1830. Ia beremigrasi ke Amerika Serikat, tiba di San Francisco pada tahun 1855, di mana ia memulai karir sebagai agen penerbit dan penjual buku. Dia meninggalkan San Francisco pada akhir 1860-an, dan setelah kecelakaan kereta pos di mana ia menerima cedera kepala berat, kembali ke Inggris selama beberapa tahun.

Sementara memulihkan diri kembali di Inggris, ia mengambil fotografi serius terkadang antara 1861 dan 1866, di mana ia belajar proses Collodion.

Eadweard Muybridge kembali ke tanah kelahirannya di Inggris untuk selamanya pada tahun 1894, menerbitkan dua lanjut, buku-buku populer karyanya, dan meninggal pada tanggal 8 Mei 1904 di Kingston upon Thames ketika tinggal di rumah sepupunya Catherine Smith, Park View, 2 Liverpool Road. Rumah itu memiliki plakat peringatan di dinding luar British Film Institute yang diresmikan pada tahun 2004.^[5] Muybridge dikremasi dan abunya dimakamkan di Woking di Surrey.

Banyak urutan fotografi Muybridge telah diterbitkan sejak tahun 1950 sebagai buku referensi seniman.^[rujukan?] Animatorkartun sering kali menggunakan foto Muybridge sebagai referensi ketika menggambar karakter mereka. Sejak tahun 1991, Mainan perusahaan Optical telah menerbitkan urutan Muybridge dalam bentuk film Flipbook.

Pembuat film Thom Andersen membuat sebuah film dokumenter berjudul 1974 Eadweard Muybridge, Zoopraxographer, menggambarkan kehidupan dan pekerjaan.

Opera komposer Philip Glass tahun 1982 The Photographer didasarkan pada percobaan pembunuhan Muybridge, dengan sebuah libretto termasuk teks dari transkrip pengadilan. Sebuah video musik promosi menampilkan kutipan dari opera mendramatisir pembunuhan dan percobaan, dan termasuk sejumlah besar gambar Muybridge.

Sebuah drama Studies in Motion: The hauntings of Eadweard Muybridge memulai debut pada 2006, co-produksi antara Teater Electric Company Vancouver dan University of British Columbia Theatre.
